Children’s Book Review: Scare Me, Beware Me

Scare Me, Beware Me is a classic children’s tale with a twist. There are lots of tales about monsters under the bed, or hiding in the dark corners of the closet, just waiting to scare children after their parents turn the lights out.

This time, the children are prepared. And how!

There is no quaking under their sheets for these kids, unless it’s from laughter or anticipation. Armed with flashlights and bravery, these two aren’t standing still for a moment, waiting for the hordes of monsters to come and get them, they are on the offensive.

Children will laugh out loud at the hilarious antics of the brother and sister, which include putting the monsters to work fetching newspapers and plucking out their prickles. Wonderful illustrations of the marvelously scary monsters add to the absolute fun of the book.

This is an excellent story for children who might be in that “scared of the dark”  phase.  For them, reading about children who are armed with flashlights (a good trick for parents to try with their own children) and who aren’t the least bit scared, might help to take the edge off of bedtime anxieties.

At the back of the book is a fantastic monster gallery with every monster that you can imagine, a picture of each, the fear they cause (eg. a fear of Closets is the monster Keno)  and most importantly, how to scare it away!
